Key Stage 4 ICT is all about using ICT to solve problems. You would have learnt basic skills in Years 7-9 on many of the common software programs.
Many students now are doing the DiDA course. This is the Diploma in Digital Applications from the Edexcel Examination Board.
The more Units and Projects you complete, the more GCSE grades you can achieve.
Complete 1 Unit --> Award in Digital Applications --> 1 GCSE (Using ICT)
Complete 2 Units --> Certificate in Digital Applications --> 2 GCSEs (Multimedia)
Complete 4 Units --> Diploma in Digital Applications --> 4 GCSEs (Graphics & ICT in Enterprise)
There is no award for completing 3 units, you must do either 1, 2 or 4.
For each unit you have to do a project following a “Summative Project Brief”. This is a website that sets out the problem, and what activities you have to do to solve it. Each activity involves using different application software and different skills.
Each project is time limited, and you have only one year to complete it.
There is no examination for the course. Each project is built into a website and uploaded to the Examination Board. The website that the student makes demonstrates their skills in many different applications and this is called an “e-portfolio”.
